Moving from message-based to usage-based billing

We're making a change to how Julius measures usage, and we want to walk you through what's changing and why.

What's changing

We're moving from message-based usage to a credit-based system. Your plan and price stay exactly the same:

• Plus: $20/mo → 2,000 credits per month

• Pro: $45/mo → 4,500 credits per month

• Business: $450/mo -> 45,000 credits per month

Instead of counting messages, we'll now measure usage in credits. Different tasks will consume different amounts of credits depending on the compute involved.

Why we're making this change

AI models are improving fast. A flat per-message pricing model treats every interaction the same, but in reality, some tasks are simple and some require serious horsepower. The old model forced us to make tradeoffs about which models and compute environments we could offer you.

Credits give us the flexibility to serve you frontier AI models and give the AI better compute environments to write and run code without raising prices.

In short: you get significantly better output quality at the same cost.

What this means for you

No action required for existing Julius paid users..You'll be automatically moved to credit-based system before your next billing cycle or March 28, 2026, whichever is earlier.

For the vast majority of users, nothing changes except that Julius gets a lot better. Based on our data, we expect fewer than 5% of users will exceed their monthly credit limits under normal usage. Most users will see the same or more capacity than before, paired with noticeably better results.
